My LoE box is painted. I haven’t had a chance to use them yet althogh I’m hoping to convince my brother to have a small bash sometime before I travel abroad. I will take my cryx. The LoE were more for fun painting. I like painting monsters so they seem to be easier and more interesting.
Anyway without further ado the pictures :

Legion Painted
Wednesday, March 25th, 2009Legion of Everblight Update
Tuesday, March 17th, 2009The main back armour plates will be done and blended to hopefully look older than the ‘newer’ growth of spines. The leg plates will have a trim of bone as I’m imagining that the skin goes purple before turning into bone.
And here’s two of the Shredders, WIP :
Withershadow Combine
Wednesday, March 4th, 2009The Withershadow Combine have been finished up and based properly. As with the Cankerworm There may be a revisit to pick out the fine details (rivets etc) but for the moment they are above table-top worthy. I may write
their names on the bases; Admonia, Maelvous and Tremulus incase I forget.

Admonia is the female one with the book, she gives the ability Black Arts which allows a spell to be upkept for free! In addition she can unbind enemy spells and protect the general a bit more.

Tremulis is the puppeteer, I might add four strings to his puppeting hand. In the game it allows him to have an ability that forces either an enemy or a friendly model to re-roll a dice.

Maelvous is the leader and a little stronger, while he is alive he gives them all Stealth and Shadowbourne, which allows them to use their shadowy powers to walk through terrain and even charge through it!

All three can cast a spell called Dark Fire (each!) which effectively works like the pistol wraith’s pistol with a RAT of 7. However they cannot get an aiming bonus and don’t have the crack shot ability that he does.
Mortenebra Has Legs!
Tuesday, February 24th, 2009Mortenebra has legs. Its all I got done today as I am recovering from two of the best games of Warhammer I’ve had in quite a while. In addition I couldn’t stick the legs before as basically the superglue which I have currently is rubbish and wouldn’t stick it. So I used some 2-part liquid metal which hardens in about 5 minutes. I did the inner two first, then worked out. So now she’s base-coated and assembled fully. I just need to get her painted.
In addition the Legion of Everblight box arrived today. I’m thinking of what colours to paint them. I’m toying with the idea of a bit of purple in places but I dont know how that will work out as purple usually looks hideous in large amounts so I am unsure. I know they live in a tundra type area so that will be a factor but I want to shy away from the ‘given’ colour scheme yet not be too distinct. My Cryx are ‘black’ but various things have puple and turquoise on them to tie them together. Tomorrow I need to work on my Withershadow Combine and Nightmare as If I take anything it will be Warmachine/Hordes as that is what is played in the gaming club near where I’m moving to.
I’ve been assembling some Warhammer stuff which *has* to get painted before I even go near the legion of everblight. (unless it doesn’t get painted and then I paint the legion in the UK but hopefully it wont come to that!) Irregardless they may get filed/assembled/primed (in white) but otherwise I have to do, in order of priority ;
For Lizardmen:
Ancient Stegadon + crew to prime and paint
Slann to finish (basing detail)
20 Temple Guard to assemble prime and paint
Terradons – 1 to paint, 1 to repair
Stegadon + crew to fix up & paint
Battle Standard Bearer*
16 Skinks + 2 Kroxigor (unit)*
For Wood Elves:
Battle Standard Bearer
3 Warhawks & Riders
Treeman to finish
Lord on Great Stag (needs a bit of conversion too)*
*not big priorities
Tyranids:
Various units need repairs, possibly some gaunts.. maybe it is all painted but I’m not sure as I haven’t dug them out in about 3 years. Necrons are all painted although some need a bit of fixing up but I wont be using them.
I want to sell my dark eldar and salamander space marines (€75 euros each I think which is insane but I want riid of them) if possible so then I will have 2 armies for each system. I do have a lot of skull pass goblins but that is a long term project so I’m not counting that as there’s waaay too much in it – 2×20 archers 2×30 spearmen, characters, 2 trolls, I need fanatics and to convert some squigs, build some bolt throwers and a doom diver and then that’s about 1500-200- points of wackyness!
Touching up
Friday, February 6th, 2009This is a mid painting session update.
Have finished Gorman DiWolfe – a few highlights and some little detailing and he was finished.

The cankerworm is a bit more passable. Still room for improvement but he will do for the moment as there are other things that need painting

Deryliss has had his metallics done and his skin updated. He still needs tidying and detailing.

Finally Deneghra got he skin drybrushed a little – looking at the properly lit photograph she needs a bit more in some places and I tidied up her skirt thing a little. I am also using blue and turquoise in some places to tie certain units together.
Anyway I’m hypoglycemic (necrotite in the engine is running out in warmachine parlance) so I’d better finish up her
Pistol Wraith & Gorman (+ BETTER PIX!)
Friday, February 6th, 2009I got the Pistol Wraith and Gorman almost done. I had to do the wraith at home as the senior speed painting didn’t happen at the club
The wraith was mostly a quick drybrush up, some light inking and more drybrushing with some slight detailing (the silver on the guns). The reason the skull was brown was because bone looks better over brown. I also tend to use bleached bone rather than white to make my first highlight and then possibly white and that to make the final one depending. The bleached bone is more muted and not as garish as white can sometimes tend to seem. Eitherway he was mostly done and just needed the green scarves to be inked green, then highlighted up with goblin green+bleached bone and finally a hint of scorpion green so he’s a little bit ethereal looking!
Gorman DiWolfe was a bit more time intensive as I wanted to make his boots, hood/mask and gloves look like rubber (what a chemist at the time would use to stop himself getting chemical burns) so I mixed black with clear varnish. It gives it a different texture than pure matt black. His trim was lined grey and the white chemical bottles were painted goblin green+green ink+ardcoat. The ardcoat thickens the paint so it can be given more texture hence the slightly swirling appearance to his acid bombs. He still needs to be highlighted but seems alright so far.
The Cankerworm face, spine and jaws were painted in bone like the Pistol Wraith’s head and arms. I was kind of stuck what colours to paint him… but i decided to make the underbelly from brass as Cankerworms are rare bonejacks so it stands to reason that no expense would be spared in manufacturing one. I make my brassy bits from chainmail + shining gold (the new version is the worst metallic EVAR!) and then when its dry some brown ink. (also lack of inks… they are all washes now
)The legs were also picked out in flat chainmail. I drybrushed the other plates on his top/back with chainmail to pick out the rivets. At the moment he looks passable for a game but is nowhere near finished. The base also got some minor additions like picking out the chain and also making the skull look more skull like !
I also worked on Deryliss who got undercoated yesterday along with the Nightmare and Mortenebra. He got a camogreen+codex grey base coat on his robes that was later inked. His skin was bleached bone + beastial brown+a dot of brown ink. This was then inked brown. The metallic parts were drybrushed with chainmail and a drop of green ink to tie him visually to mortenebra.
Mortenebra only got the most basic of base coats. The chainmail + green ink drybrush as well as some necron abyss foundation mixed with a little grey for her ‘skirt’. some of the bone/fangs were picked out in a little brown but she needs a lot of attention. I still have to affix parts of her.

Finally… let me introduce the WIP of Warwitch Deneghra :
As you will notice Deneghra has a nicer poke-ier stabbier spear as her default one is totally pathetic! She needed an über spear which came from Morathai’s corpse. (Don’t ask why I had spare Morathai body lying about) the spirals were green-stuffed to blend in and painted the nice green basecoat of scorpion green. I started on Deneghra’s skin which was grey+liche purple then it was highlighted grey + brown to inject some life into it. It gives it this dusky appearance. Elf flesh and grey leads it to where it is now but it needs a final highlight of elf flesh alone I think.
Tomorrow I might try and get Deneghra finished for my game against Tim on Sunday. I’m expecting to be murdered but I remember when getting to grips with my Lizardman army I would always be looking to learn from a game weather I win or loose and I think I am picking up ideas. I will need to get more infantry like has been suggested. Mechanithralls were suggesed and Bane knights/thralls. The Bane Knights look a bit cooler although game wise I have no idea. Bane thralls and mechanithralls are listed in the book so I will re-read them.
Painting
Thursday, January 29th, 2009For painting I’m not going to detail EACH step, but give a rough guide to the colours I used.
The bilethralls were basecoated in bleached bone mixed with catachan green to give that leathery old skin look. This was highlighed up heavily with bleached bone, green inked, then highlighted again with snotgreen+goblingreen. The final skin was highlighted strategically with scorpion green+ardcoat varnish. The gun was painted in black+chainmail (boltgun metal) and inked in brown ink. The collars were also painted in the metal colours. All of the gloves and wooded areas were coated in beastial brown, the gloves were then highlighted in snakebite leather. The skulls were also painted beastial brown and highlighted with bleached bone and then skull white. The pipe was painted in black+ardcoat and so wasn’t highlighted.
All in all they turned out green, bilious and generally horrid ! So I am pleased with them. I generally paint quickly but Im not always the most perceptive and might miss some detail but I think I got it all.

Smelly Enough?

The Boss
The bases were given quick highlight of codex grey+chaos black and then another one of just chaos grey. After I’d painted and affixed the jacks to their bases any gaps were painted black and then highlighted with white. With the black paint still wet this blends together.
For the ‘jacks themselves I more or less followed the ideas on http://www.brushthralls.com. [see faction box in 10 days - cryx] Black, brass, bone and silver with nice green necrotite furnaces. By not attaching them to the bases I was able to paint under them. I have learned from 12 years of wargaming experience that bases getting in the way is one of the most irritating things in painting! So thankfully that was averted and they turned out well too. Although they were not totally finished one they were totally dry I sealed them all with Citadel ‘Purity Seal’ (Matt varnish)
