The Withershadow Combine have been finished up and based properly. As with the Cankerworm There may be a revisit to pick out the fine details (rivets etc) but for the moment they are above table-top worthy. I may write
their names on the bases; Admonia, Maelvous and Tremulus incase I forget.

Admonia is the female one with the book, she gives the ability Black Arts which allows a spell to be upkept for free! In addition she can unbind enemy spells and protect the general a bit more.

Tremulis is the puppeteer, I might add four strings to his puppeting hand. In the game it allows him to have an ability that forces either an enemy or a friendly model to re-roll a dice.

Maelvous is the leader and a little stronger, while he is alive he gives them all Stealth and Shadowbourne, which allows them to use their shadowy powers to walk through terrain and even charge through it!

All three can cast a spell called Dark Fire (each!) which effectively works like the pistol wraith’s pistol with a RAT of 7. However they cannot get an aiming bonus and don’t have the crack shot ability that he does.

This post is dedicated to Sir Elton John for The Circle of Life song..
Ahem moving swiftly on. This weeks warmachine game was against Ian’s Circle. I think he went a bit soft with his choice of caster a sort of shapeshifting werewolf dude with 2 axes an a lot of fury potential. He also had a Satyr, Stone&Stick-Man,a stone circle, a twigman making monolith, wayfarer and druids.
I took Deneghra, Nightmare, 2 Deathrippers, Nightwretch, Bile Thralls, Gorman, Pistol Wraith and The Withershadow Combine made their Debut.
Deployment was as shown in the picture, Ian allowed me to go first.

The first turn each was largely uneventful with us moving up into better positions. I didn’t waste as much focus in this game as other games so I am getting better.
The game was largely constrained to a few key moments due to time constraints and also by the fact that in turn 2 both Ian and my own dice rolling was less than dire. (Ian missed a 5+ on three dice and two 7+ on 3 dice twice!) Things didn’t heat up until the Nightmare charged the Satyr and knocked him to 1 wound. Magic was suppressed by the druids and the pistol wraith missed them with both pistols. The Withershadow were interesting but I wasn’t that confident with them as I would be with the nightmare or cankerworm. I only got to zap dark bolt a couple of times at the Stone-Stick-Man-Beast thing. By Turn 2 it looked like this :

In turn three Ian tried to assassinate deneghra in a long shot by using the wayfarers ability combined with his casters spell to move right on top of Deneghra. He did some damage and combined with the shooting from the evil eye orb thing she have only a couple of wounds left. Stickman fell short as he threw a boneripper but it hit the Eyeball. At this point i felt victory was within my grasp and I popped deneghras feat and combined it with parasite. so that the caster had -2 def and -5 armour and deneghra had +1 armour. The eyeball missed it free shot and deneghra stabbed the warcaster with 3 of her remaining focus but this was transferred to stickman. He was now impailed and easier to hit but again this was transferred. He was vunerable and I couldn’t leave deneghra there so she walked away ( I LOVE WITCH BARBS!) leaving the battle field looking like this:

I thought about using my withershadow to melee him and hopefully kill him but I coudn’t charge from the wood. Then I noticed my bile thralls who had only done a point of damage on the eyeball and lost a guy. Usually they are dead by now! I decided that since there was so much room just walk down and purge all 5 onto the Warlock and so it was victory to me as he wasn’t going to survive 10d6-5 damage

I decided to try and pass the time with some painting. The nightmare got a bit of a touch up and at present has one arm. Presently he will have both. Below is a WIP photo of him and the little greenstuff ‘squiggle’ which grips the central cylinder. The rods/pins in the arms go into this then to help support them in addition to the glue. It should essentially provide another way of distributing the weight of the arms.

I also progressed the Withershadow Combine a little – added the teal/turquoise to the robes, drybrushed and inked the metal and added the brass details. I am going to have to write their names on the bases as each one has different rules.

Finally I cracked out the Hordes and began assembling the Carniverean. He’s had quite a lot of mould release powder on him some of which lead to a slight discolouration but after his bath it will be irrelevant! His torso got pinned to the abdomen and greenstuff helped there. Two shallow but broader than normal holes were bored in the tail and the adjoining part and a small ball of greenstuff used to provide additional strength there. Finally the gaps between the underneath plates on the tail and abdomen were greenstuffed and textured to blend it all together.

He still needs filing on some mould lines as you can see and there was a lot of flash – probably why it was on fleabay in the first place. Still a starter box for the price of the Carniverean alone cannot be too bad!
